A recent Gallup poll showed that globally 85% of people hate their jobs.

 *MIC DROP*

And I think part of the problem is that when we’re in high school and college we were designated a Career Advisor.

This thought came to mind when I was at a networking event last week where I got to spend time with Harriet, the front desk team member at my gym (she organized the event). Harriet is taking a gap year from Uni and the conversation around Harriet touched on the fact that we we’re given Career Advisors throughout our educational journey.

One person, Alex, recalled his Career Advisor telling him that he was suited to be a Funeral Director, yet, he’s in a life coach + in a Digital Marketer role for Greggs, one of the biggest UK bakeries specializing in bakes, sausage rolls and much, much more. And Harriet said that her Career Advisor said she could be a farmer, yet, she’s working at a Crossfit Gym, going for a Degree in Sports Psychology, and applying for the Fire Service in the fall.

How wrong were those Career Advisors? 😐

What would happen if we weren’t only given Career Advisors, but we're also given access to Entrepreneur/Small Business Advisors in our educational system?

Side note: When I say entrepreneur, I also mean solo business owners, freelancers, and consultants etc.

I believe that giving students access to entrepreneurial conversations would generate less people hating their jobs and instead drive them to create solutions to the world’s biggest problems via their own businesses.

If you’ve never had access to entrepreneurial convos then dive into episode 40 of Allergic to Small Talk “9-5 or Build Your Own Business?”

I talk about the spectrum between employee to business owner which includes:

1. Vital Team Members - Employees that are developing their craft and not quite ready to begin their business owner journey.

2. Double Agents - Employees that are ready to dabble in a side hustle alongside their 9-5.

3. Experience Masters - Employees that have honed in on their craft and they’re ready to side hustle or consult to build a steady side income.

4. Real Go Getters - Employees that are ready to dive into business ownership like yesterday!

If you fall into the 85% of people that dread their job or ever felt there was something more for you beyond your 9-5, this episode is for you because it’ll help you understand where you might be on the road to business ownership.

And as you go through this episode, you might not know which category you fall into, but don't fret. My business partner, Leslie Levito, has created a short quiz for you to take to see exactly where you might fall. Quiz link is here.

To catch episode 40, you can find it on Apple, Google, or Spotify.

 Happy listening!
